Custom Roll-Handling Conveyor with Crane Loading
Rolls Paid Out Flat.
Conveyor for One Product?
What We Installed
- A custom in-feed gravity cradle that holds the roll
- A custom nip roller that presses the product flat as it travels to the main takeaway line
- A variable frequency drive, so the conveyor speed can be dialed in to match the production line
- Wirecrafters machine guarding enclosing the whole system
- A Gorbel workstation crane with a custom air-operated roll lifting device for handling the rolls
The crane and conveyor were both painted to match the customer's corporate colors.
How the Project Came Together
From Challenge to Solution
See how each project came together, from the initial need and installation process to the finished result.
The Problem
A felt roll weighing 80 lbs, 100 feet long when unrolled, had to be paid out perfectly flat, ready for the next step in manufacturing. Lifting the rolls onto the line was repetitive, heavy work.
How It Went In
We built the conveyor around the roll: a cradle sized to the 80 lb roll, a nip roller to keep it flat, and a drive set to match line speed. The Gorbel crane and its air-operated roll lifter went in with it to load the rolls.
The Result
Felt rolls unroll flat and at the right speed automatically, while the crane and lifting device take the repetitive heavy lifting off production line employees.
